Concussions

Concussions are a serious injury to the brain for which there are no definitive tests to diagnose. There are, however, specific tests and procedures we perform during an examination that allow us to understand when an athlete has suffered a traumatic brain injury. If not properly cared for and managed, such injuries can result in a lifetime of cognitive problems. Besides rest and allowing the brain to recover properly, there are other issues to consider when returning an athlete to sport. A primary concern for us in the accompanying damage to the neck as a result of the blow to the head. Many athletes with neck injuries can be misdiagnosed with concussions and post concussive syndrome as a result of a limited perspective evaluation. Therefore, we believe it is vital to have a thorough and meticulous examination to ensure the concussed athlete makes a complete and full recovery, as fast as possible.
